Thank you for your interest in the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at UAB. We welcome your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) annually beginning August 12th through October 30th. Applicants are selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP 1007151F0). UAB sponsors J-1 or H-1B visas if needed, for applicants who match with us. Before applying, please check eligibility requirements. Applicants matching with us will begin their fellowship training the following Academic Year on July 1. 

The following documentation is required of all applicants to submit in ERAS in order for their file to be considered complete. If you are interested in advanced training opportunities, let usknow during the application process.

    • ERAS application form with a recent photograph
    • Curriculum vitae (must be month/year specific)
    • Personal statement describing your long-term career goals in as much detail as possible.
    • Medical School Transcript.
    • All 3 USMLE Steps 1, 2 & 3 Transcripts and if applicable, ECFMG Status Report
    • Three letters of recommendation (including a letter from Chair or Program Director of applicant's Residency Program).
Foreign Medical Graduates:
    • Copy of Green Card, proof of US citizenship, or current visa status
    • Notarized copy of ECFMG Certificate
Once your application is complete, it will be reviewed by our selection committee and you may be invited to come to UAB for interviews. Applications are reviewed and interview invitations are sent out throughout the interview season. Interviews are held in September and October.

Residency Criteria & Benefits

Detailed terms and conditions of appointment may be found in the UAB Graduate Medicine Education (GME) Policies and Procedures Manual.  Only applicants who meet all of the following criteria may be accepted into our accredited training program sponsored by UAB University Hospital:
    • Are graduates or will graduate from an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency program in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology, or Surgery.
    • Are board-certified or board-eligible in one of the above medical specialties.
    • Are licensed or will be licensed to practice medicine the State of Alabama prior to the start date of fellowship training.
    • Are US citizens or hold a valid visa for graduate medical education in the US. Candidates must meet with the UAB International Scholar & Student Services to ensure that the applicant holds an appropriate visa or to assist in the processing of the paperwork required for full compliance with states and federal policies.
