Gustavo HeudebertThe Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has launched a campaign to recognize Gustavo (Tavo) R. Heudebert, MD, MACP’s many contributions to UAB and our community by establishing an endowment in his name and honor. Tavo’s remarkable clinical and educational skills have created a legacy of excellent, compassionate physicians that practice world-wide.

The Gustavo R. Heudebert, MD, MACP, Endowment in General Internal Medicine will serve as a most fitting and permanent tribute to Dr. Heudebert's contributions to the field of General Internal Medicine, the University, and to the advancement of medical education. This endowment will support a clinician-educator in the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program. With over 1,600 residents trained over the past 50 years, a strong foundation has been laid. Now, as we look toward the future, we must continue to support this program and recruit the best and brightest to UAB.

Our fundraising efforts have reached a major milestone.  To date, $145,000 has been raised, reaching the Endowed Scholar level.  The Division of General Internal Medicine and The Department of Medicine are committed to raising the $500,000 needed to create and Endowed Professorship for the division and will be matching individual gifts dollar for dollar - for example, a gift of $5,000 will be leveraged to provide $10,000 in support.
