Dr. Papadantonakis obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Crete, Greece, and subsequently pursued a Master’s and Ph.D. degrees also from the University of Crete, Greece. His research was conducted in part under the mentorship of Professor Katya Ravid at Boston University School of Medicine, and  focused on aspects of Megakaryocyte biology including their role in the development of Myelofibrosis. 

Dr. Papdantonakis completed his Internal Medicine residency in Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and undertook fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.  His clinical and research activities there were focused in benign hematology and the leukemia/lymphoma programs. 

On completion of training, he joined UAB as an Assistant Professor in 2016.  His research interests are focused in the area of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He is the principal investigator in several leukemia clinical trials and strives to bring cutting edge treatment options to the clinic for his patients.  In addition to his research activities, Dr. Papadantonakis enjoys teaching and has received teaching accolades from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
