MEC Curriculum Committee and Course/Clerkship Directors

Faculty and student feedback and participation in the curriculum is encouraged.  Course and clerkship directors as well as others engaged in teaching medical students have a vital role in the curriculum.

The Medical Education Committee (MEC) is designed to assure faculty representation from various academic disciplines and student representation from different levels in the medical education process across all campuses to review the curriculum and its various components.

The MEC is primarily responsible for overseeing courses and clerkships, for monitoring program implementation, and for assisting in program evaluation.  Course and clerkship director groups serve as advisory and implementation groups to the MEC and implement the curriculum in conjunction with support from the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME).

Clinical Skills Scholars

The SOM Clinical Skills Scholars (CSS) Program is a group of clinical faculty selected for their excellence in teaching and clinical skills who will teach and develop an integrated clinical skills program. Chosen in Summer 2013, this group of 31 faculty members are charged with teaching in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses as well as assisting with development and assessment of a four-year longitudinal clinical skills curriculum.
