The UAB School of Medicine Montgomery Regional Medical Campus (MRMC) opened to UAB medical students in May 2014. The mission of the Montgomery campus is to increase the number of primary care physicians in Alabama, and decrease the shortage of much-needed physicians in rural areas. The MRMC has over 130 community based preceptors, and is home to both the Montgomery Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Selma Family Medicine Residency Program.

The MRMC’s primary teaching hospitals are Baptist Medical Center South - a licensed, 454-bed, acute care regional referral center and Montgomery’s largest healthcare facility, and Baptist Medical Center East - a licensed, 150-bed, acute care hospital with an award winning range of healthcare services including state-of-the-art Labor and Delivery center.  The Montgomery campus’ medical training program is also affiliated with Baptist Prattville Hospital, Crossbridge Behavioral Health, the Baptist Family Medicine Residency Program and Family Medicine Clinic, The Montgomery Cancer Center, the UAB Health Center Montgomery Ambulatory Care Clinic, the Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation, and the new Montgomery UAB Multispecialty Clinic (a joint venture of Baptist Health and UAB Medicine). During their 3rd and 4th year curriculum, UAB Montgomery medical students will have the opportunity to train and earn clinical experience at all of these various healthcare centers, and many more.

Our campus offers opportunities for elective clinical experiences that are unique only to the MRMC at locations such as Montgomery AIDS Outreach, Montgomery Medical Outreach Ministries, and the Alabama State Forensics Lab.  Students can also experience a healthy dose of Alabama health policy while rotating at the Alabama Department of Public Health, and on the hospital administrative level with a rotation with the Baptist South CEO.
