Dr. Blevins joined our faculty in 2007 after 12 years of rural private practice. She earned her MD from Wright State in 1992 then completed residency training here in 1995. During her third year she served as chief resident and completed the additional obstetrics training necessary to allow her to obtain C-section privileges when she entered practice in Tennessee. Dr. Blevins is a certified instructor for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) as well as an AAFP Fellow. She has a strong interest in medical missions, and enjoys spending time with her husband and children, travel, movies, exercise, and church activities.

Originally from Huntsville Dr. Chesebro attended UAB and was a medical student on the Huntsville Campus. She completed residency at the Tuscaloosa program and stayed on as faculty there for 7 years before returning to Huntsville to join a private practice group.  She returned to academia by joining our faculty in 1995. In 2003 she completed her MPH with emphasis on research design, critical review of the literature, and epidemiology. In addition to her present role as Department Chair she has served in several administrative roles at the Huntsville program including student clerkship director, and residency program director. She currently serves as Medical Director of Windsor House Nursing Care Facility.

Dr. Daniell joined the Family Medicine Faculty in 1989 but the University of Alabama system has been a part of Dr. Daniell's life since she became a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville after graduating from high school. She then attended the UASOM, completing her final two years here in Huntsville. She completed her family medicine residency here in Huntsville and served as Chief Resident during her final year.   Dr. Daniell is particularly interested in colposcopy and caring for families of all ages. She is busy with many activities with her husband and three children and enjoys walking, cooking, and sewing.

sarrels 2M. Scott Sarrels, MD

Assistant Professor of Family Medicine

An alumni of our residency program, Dr. Sarrels joined the Family Medicine faculty in 2011, after 28 years of private practice. For two and a half years he practiced all aspects of Family Medicine, including surgical obstetrics, in Centre, Alabama. Dr. Sarrels then spent  twenty five years practicing family medicine without obstetrics in Decatur. During his practice years Dr. Sarrels regularly served as preceptor to UAB students and residents.  He also twice served as Chief of Staff, served as president of an IPA, and was director of a clinic's lab and x-ray. Dr. Sarrels helped to establish and staff the Morgan County Free Clinic. Dr. Sarrels has been married since 1976 to his high school sweetheart; they have two children and two grandsons. He enjoys family time, water sports, snow skiing, horseback riding, woodworking, and home repair challenges.

  

Gayatri Venkatraman, MDvenkatraman

Dr. Venkatraman is a 2007 graduate of Government Medical College, Nagpur in Maharashtra, India.  In 2013 she completed her Family Medicine residency here at UAB Huntsville and, after practicing in Madison, AL, she returned as faculty in 2016.  While her two young children leave little time for other hobbies, Dr. Venkatraman enjoys music, art and dance as well as spending time with her family.

Dr. Andrus earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in 1999. She completed a post-graduate Specialty Residency in Primary Care at the Durham VA Medical Center and UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy in 2000. and became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2002.  She is active in national pharmacy organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacists (ACCP). In 2009 she received the distinction of Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP).

Dr. Phillippe is a native of Alabama, having grown up in Scottsboro. Dr. Phillippe graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2006 from Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. Following graduation, Dr. Phillippe completed a pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. Upon completion of her residency in 2007, Dr. Phillippe joined the faculty where she focuses on outpatient family medicine. Her professional interests include anticoagulation, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension.
