MASA Meeting in Washington, D.C.
This popular trip, sponsored by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama (MASA), introduces RMP students to process through which physicians interact with the congress to establish healthcare policy.
While at the conference, students attend meetings that provide current information regarding the government’s healthcare agenda and how it will affect their careers. Students get to personally meet with their Senators and Representatives which allows them to engage in discussions regarding these issues. The understanding gained from this conference helps students develop lasting insight into their leadership role in the healthcare arena.
“ The MASA Governmental Affairs Conference was an exciting opportunity to meet with members of Congress to discuss how relevant healthcare legislation affects primary care while networking with other family medicine leaders passionate about the future of our healthcare system.” - Jeremy Thompson, Family Medicine Resident, Huntsville
Student AAFP National Meeting in Kansas City

This National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students is hosted by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The conference includes lectures, workshops, procedures courses and clinics. There are also exhibition booths by more than 300 family residency programs interested in attracting future family physicians to their programs.
The National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and the National Congress of Student Members hold their annual meetings during the conference.
“National Conference is a great way to network with other students interested in family medicine, to meet and interact with residents and faculty from hundreds of different family medicine residency programs, and to get a taste for how the AAFP works. I always come away inspired and my passion for family medicine renewed.” - Tate Hinkle MS3, National Student Delegate, AAFP Congress of Delegates

Student AAFP State Meeting in Sandestin
The Alabama Academy of Family Physicians holds its annual conference each summer in Sandestin. This conference features lectures and workshops specifically geared toward students. The student AAFP chapter meets each year to elect new officers and representatives.
"The state AAFP meeting in Sandestin is always an exciting time for students interested in family medicine, especially those who wish to practice as a family doctor in Alabama. It is a great time to network with students from other medical schools across the state and to get ideas for FMIG activities and fundraisers. The state meeting is also a great place to learn from family physicians who are currently in practice. It is a great way to gain experience in a very relaxed environment." Brittany Holley, MS3
