The UAB ID Fellowship Program has chosen to conduct all interviews during the 2022 application cycle as virtual interviews in agreement with the AAMC and IDSA.  The decision to remain fully virtual during this application cycle was based upon several factors including the unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining equity during the application and interview process for all applicants, and recognizing that travel costs can be prohibitive as airfare and hotel costs have risen in the past year.

We are considering allowing a “second visit” in-person for those who are interested in visiting Birmingham, meeting with fellows, or seeing our impressive medical center campus. We are awaiting guidance from our institution as well as national bodies (IDSA, NRMP, AAMC, etc.), but if these visits are ultimately allowed, they will be informal, optional, and involve no interviews. Presence or absence at one of these visits will not play a role in ranking.
