  • Division of Nephrology, Cardio-Renal Section

    James Schafer Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Collegiality

    All KURE students are eligible for nomination
    Awardee is selected based on the following criteria:

    • Dedication and commitment to the project even if only negative results were obtained
    • Positive attitude
    • Collegiality amongst lab members
    • Active Participation in KURE professional development opportunities

    This award is not about performing outstanding research; it is to recognize a student that worked hard to make their KURE experience a success.

    • Nomination Letter from KURE mentor and/or supervisor
    • Presentation at the KURE Symposium

  • Pipeline Program Awards

    Ijeoma Obi Exceptional Near Peer Award

    All Pipeline program near peers (graduate students, fellows, supervisors) are eligible for nomination
    The awardee will be selected based on the following criteria:

    • Outstanding service to the Kidney Pipeline Programs
    • Impact on growth of Pipeline Scholar
    • Willingness to provide outstanding opportunities to Pipeline participants
    • This award is to provide recognition to the dedication and willingness of the Pipeline program Near Peers; it is to recognize a near peer that worked hard to make the Pipeline program experience a success.
    • Nominations from Pipeline program scholars (KURE, PROmoTE, and PRIME) for their mentors, near peers, and supervisors

    Pipeline Outstanding Peer Award

    All KURE and PROmoTE students are eligible for nomination
    The awardee will be selected based on the following criteria:

    • Affability, Team Player, Service to pipeline peers and near peers, Comradery
    • This award is to provide recognition to the Pipeline (KURE and PROmoTE) students FROM THEIR PEERS in the program; willingness of the student to help their peers make the Pipeline program experience a success.
    • Nominations from Pipeline program (KURE and PROmoTE) students for another Pipeline program student Please Complete Nomination Form by July 20, 2022 at 5:00 PM CT

    - Monetary award

  • Professional Organization External Awards

    ASN KUH STARS

    Based on personal application and KURE symposium presentation

    • Provide a 1-2-page statement on the impact of the KURE Program on your future interest in a kidney career
    • Letter from mentor
    • Oral Presentation (at KURE Symposium)

    - Allows for virtual ASN Kidney Week participation and mentorship

    APS Physiology Award for Pipeline Students

    Awarded to the Pipeline scholar (KURE and PROmoTE) that best presents a visual representation of “What is Physiology?” 1 image and 5 words
    - Provides APS membership and SWAG

EVENT SPECIFIC DETAILS

July 28 – UAB Summer Research Expo

Scholars - Register Here - You can do this now or anytime before July 18.

- For the registration you will need the title and 5 words describing the project
– Select Poster Session – In person.
- You can submit your abstract at the time of registration, however, a Final abstract will need to be submitted to Rena by noon on July 21 - it will be sent to the UAB ugrad research office for the expo and used for the KUH Conference submission.

July 29 - Bevill Auditorium - UAB KURE Symposium

Spain-Wallace Auditorium - 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM

  • 6 minute oral presentation with 1-2 minute Q&A
  • 3 sections of presenters (6 presenters in each section)

Lunch Reception and Award Announcements to follow - Bevill Auditorium and Atrium

August 1 - 3 - Virtual - NIH NIDDK KUH Conference
