Students will be paired with a faculty mentor and work in a team environment of PhD students, post-docs, fellows, and other researchers to work on a project that is supported by on-going NIH or related grants. All projects are related to advances in kidney, urology, and/or non-malignant hematology research. Methodological approaches include a full range of molecular, biochemical, and cell biology approaches, in vitro tissue perfusion and function techniques, as well as chronic animal models that assess renal and vascular function.

UAB KURE is a focused opportunity to develop your research and biomedical knowledge through a mentored experience in a team environment. With over 80+ members of the Nephrology, CKD, Urology, and Hematology community are involved in the program - the networking and development opportunities do not stop! Not to mention the opportunity to live in downtown Birmingham throughout the summer!

In addition the research and trining opportunities - the program provides:

• $3500 stipend

• Candidates will be reviewed on the above completed information
• Top Candidates will be asked to complete a short interview

Acceptance: We begin offering admittance on a rolling basis in February, deadline for all UAB KURE Applications is February 28, 2024

Strong Applicants:

• Minimum GPA of 3.2
• At least 60 credit hours completed by the end of the spring semester
• Preference given to students who have completed advanced biology courses with direct biomedical focus
• Preference given to those interested in nephrology-related biomedical research
