SPARC logoThe SPARC Program (Scientific Peer-mentoring and Advisory for Renal and Cardiovascular fellows) is catered to basic and clinical research fellows in the Divisions of Nephrology and Cardiovascular Disease at UAB. The SPARC Program is oriented to building a strong network between clinical and basic research fellows in those 2 divisions. It aims to create opportunities to strengthen our fellows’ professional skills and to foster networking among them. This might include providing opportunities to present our research in campus, inviting and interacting with outside speakers in our area of research, providing a friendly environment to discuss career-related opportunities and problems that we may face, grant applications, etc. The SPARC Program normally meets on the last Monday of the month at 4 pm. The location varies from month to month, but we send a reminder email prior to the meeting disclosing the location.

Dr. Megan K. Rhoads heads up the group. Dr. Jennifer Pollock is the facilitator of this program and Drs. Martin Young and Paul Sanders represent the 2 divisions. The heads of each division, Drs. Agarwal and Prabhu, strongly encourage the participation of clinical research fellows in this program, as they want to foster collaborations between basic and clinical researchers. The first meeting of the SPARC Program members was on February 2016.
