AMC21 Reload: Seeking input for research focus areas

Written by
Dear Colleagues,

As we re-initiate our strategic plan (AMC 21 Reload), I am asking for your input on our areas of strategic emphasis in research.  Our goal is to have five priority areas that are broad, cross-cutting research focus areas in which we can differentiate ourselves on the national landscape.  Two of these have already been identified:  Genomics/Personalized Medicine and Informatics.

We are seeking broad input on the remaining three focus areas.  They should not be disease- or organ-specific or specific to basic, translational, or clinical research.  Also, because I would like to understand whether investments in a focus area are successful, there should be ways to measure success.  Your input is valued and will help guide our future.

We have asked department chairs, UWIRC directors and current AMC 21 pillar and platform co-chairs to solicit input from you and provide a one-page document supporting the consideration of the focus area(s) to be recommended.  Please work directly with them on the focus area(s) you believe should be considered.  They have a deadline to provide these materials to the dean’s office by next Tuesday, Sept. 30, so your prompt attention to this request and contact with your department, center, and/or AMC 21 steering committee leadership is greatly appreciated.

This is a reprint of an email sent to SOM faculty from Dr. Vickers on Sept. 23.
