The Huntsville Regional Medical Campus recently finalized and celebrated the creation of two new endowments at its 45th anniversary event April 8. They are the first endowments established for the Huntsville campus.
The UAB School of Medicine Huntsville Regional Medical Campus hosted its second annual Research Day April 9. Huntsville campus students, residents and staff presented 51 posters and nine oral presentations of research abstracts and clinical vignettes.
Chandler and Amanda Stisher, two Huntsville Regional Medical Campus MS4 students, have been elected to positions within the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The School of Medicine welcomed its first-year medical students with an orientation July 23-27. During the weeklong orientation, the 2018 incoming class enjoyed academic sessions from faculty members and breakout sessions led by a group of second-year medical students who served as orientation leaders.

The UAB School of Medicine Huntsville Regional Medical Campus held its second annual simulation internship day for its internal medicine and family medicine interns this summer.

The combined group of medical students, faculty and staff distributed essential medications to poverty-stricken neighborhoods and villages, diagnosed and treated hundreds of patients, and supplied reading glasses to over 100 individuals.

UAB’s Huntsville Regional Medical Campus held its Inaugural Research Day on Tuesday, April 3. Roger Smalligan, M.D., MPH, regional dean, and Dr. Farrah Ibrahim, M.D., FACP, residency program director for the Huntsville Internal Medicine residency program, developed the oral and poster competition mirroring similar endeavors held at state and national medical conferences.
Huntsville Regional Medical Campus students, family medicine and internal medicine residents, full-time and volunteer faculty, and their dean, Roger Smalligan, M.D., MPH, had three oral presentations and six posters accepted to the Southern Regional Meeting (SRM) that took place Feb. 22-24 in New Orleans.
Pippa C. Abston, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Huntsville Regional Medical Campus, was recently appointed by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
Lanita S. Carter, Ph.D., director of Medical Education and Students Services for the Huntsville Regional Medical Campus, has been named chair of the Steering Committee for the Association of American Medical Colleges' Group on Regional Medical Campuses.
