The Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation held a symposium titled "Generative AI for Healthcare: Progress or Peril" with multiple speakers, all innovators in the field of health care, on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine and the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) are pleased to welcome Ananda Basu, M.D., and Rita Basu, M.D., as full professors into the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

Heersink School of Medicine faculty and leadership recently identified four new research focus areas that will help inform the future direction of research at our Academic Medical Center. Heersink communications is highlighting each area and exploring what it means for our future.

On March 25, 2020, the School of Medicine and the Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute issued a request for applications that would change the course of research at UAB. A year later, the 14 selected projects have led to new discoveries, subsequent funding, high impact publications, and much more.

Bruce R. Korf, M.D., Ph.D., was recently named associate dean for Genomic Medicine in the School of Medicine. Korf currently serves as UAB Medicine’s chief genomics officer and holds the Wayne and Sara Crews Finley Endowed Chair in Medical Genetics. He will continue to hold both of those positions along with his new appointment.
The UAB School of Medicine and Southern Research will host the Scientific Symposium on Precision Medicine, Neurosciences and Infectious Diseases Friday, July 27. The symposium will be held at the UAB Alumni House from 8 a.m.-5p.m.
On March 10, the Medical Alumni Association is hosting an exciting Continuing Medical Education (CME) program focused on precision medicine. If you attend all sessions, along with the luncheon, you can earn up to 5.5 CME credit hours.
In this role, Bruce Korf, M.D., Ph.D., will work with the UAB Hospital, UAB Health System, clinical department chairs and program and center directors to establish clinical programs in precision medicine.
UAB is joining the All of Us Research Program, an effort led by the National Institutes of Health to drive precision medicine research.
