Local and national discounts offered to healthcare workers

As our nation and world face the COVID-19 pandemic, several organizations are stepping up to show their appreciation for those on the frontlines. We have compiled a list of Birmingham-based and national organizations offering discounted meals, retail, and services to the healthcare community. While no token of appreciation is large enough to truly say thank you, we hope these small gestures show the collective gratitude we all feel towards our healthcare heroes.

Food and Beverage

  • Slice: 50% off for medical professionals
  • Hero Donuts: 50% off menu prices to all on-duty, in uniform, military, first responders, hospital personnel and government employees with valid ID
  • Little Donkey: 50% off menu prices to all on-duty, in uniform, military, first responders, hospital personnel and government employees with valid ID
  • Rodney Scott’s BBQ: 50% off menu prices to all on-duty, in uniform, military, first responders, hospital personnel and government employees with valid ID
  • Taco Mama: 20% off discount with a valid ID
  • Krispy Kreme: Krispy Kreme is providing health care workers a free dozen of original glazed donuts on Monday, May 4. To get the free doughnuts, health care workers can go to a Krispy Kreme drive-thru, place an order, and show their UAB Medicine badge.
  • Starbucks: Frontline workers in the health care industry who are responding to the coronavirus can get a free basic tall brewed or iced coffee at Starbucks. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses, hospital staff and researchers can get a free beverage in stores until May 3.
  • McDonald’s: McDonald’s is giving “Thank You Meals” to first responders and health care workers serving on the front lines. Until May 5, health care workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics can get a free meal at participating restaurants nationwide, available at the drive thru or for carry out.

Transportation

  • BP: 50 cents off per gallon of gas. Details are avilable here.
  • Firestone Complete Auto Care: 50% off discount on oil changes for essential service providers, including medical professionals, caregivers, first responders, military, grocery store employees, and food delivery services. This offer is good through April 30. Details are available here.
  • Mazda: Mazda has implemented the Essential Car Care Program, providing free standard oil changes and enhanced cleaning services for U.S. healthcare workers at participating dealers nationwide. Note that this deal is not limited to Mazda owners, and makes and models from many other manufacturers are included. This offer is good through May 4. Details available here.

Shoes and Clothing

Grocery

  • Sam's Club: Sam’s has implemented "Hero Hours" for healthcare workers and first responders, which will take place every Sunday from 8-10 a.m. No membership will be required for Hero Hours and Sam's Club will provide masks to wear in-store. Please note that spouses and other family members or guests will not be allowed in the store for Hero Hours. Details can be found here.

Misc.

  • Anthony’s Full Services & Express Car Wash: Free washes for healthcare workers when you present your badge or official ID at any location through your window and you’ll be let in.
  • OtterBox: 40% off discount. Email relief@otterproducts.com with subject line "OtterBox Front-liners" and include your full name, what country you live in, job industry, company name, job title, and photo of your work badge or nametag. Learn more here.
