Mugavero appointed co-director for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science

MugsMichael Mugavero, M.D., MHScMichael Mugavero, M.D., MHSc, has been appointed a co-director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), charged with providing strategic vision and leadership on behalf of the CCTS in collaborating with UAB Medicine and University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers (UWIRC) partners to advance the UAB Learning Health System (LHS).

In this capacity, he will take point in working with CCTS Domain leaders to identify, integrate, and coordinate cross-domain programs and resources aligned with overarching UAB LHS goals. Along with the CCTS Executive Committee, Mugavero will engage with Partner Network leaders to identify opportunities to advance multi-site LHS efforts across academic health centers in our three state region, building upon ongoing initiatives.

Allyson Hall, Ph.D., co-director of the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE), and professor in the Department of Health Services Administration in the School of Health Professions, will take point in providing strategic vision and leadership on behalf of the COERE in collaborating with UAB Medicine, CCTS, and other UWIRC partners to advance the UAB LHS.

Building upon her efforts in orchestrating UAB Learning Health System Month in March 2020, Hall will work with other COERE leaders to identify and integrate existing programs and resources aligned with overarching UAB LHS goals, notably, the newly established Dissemination, Implementation, and Improvement Sciences Core (DIISC), led by COERE Associate Director Larry Hearld, Ph.D.

Hall will also provide direct supervision and mentorship to doctoral student Heather Martin, who was named the inaugural UAB Learning Health System Fellow, with funding support from UAB Medicine. In this role, Martin will assist with the dissemination of quality, safety, and improvement programs, as well as embedded research and scholarship initiatives with health system partners.
