Sushanth Reddy squareSushanth Reddy, M.D., FACS, associate professor in the Department of Surgery's Division of Surgical Oncology and associate scientist in the Experimental Therapeutics Program at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, was recently appointed state chair of the Cancer Liaison Program for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).

As state chair, Reddy will collaborate with and support cancer programs, cancer professionals, the American Cancer Society and Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalitions to improve the quality of cancer care in the state of Alabama. Reddy joins a collaborative of 64 state chairs who direct the activities of more than 1,500 Commission on Cancer-accredited cancer programs across the country.

“My mission has always been to determine how we can improve people’s ability to get access to cancer care,” said Reddy. “With this opportunity, I’ll be able to expand my efforts on a state and grassroots level.”

The ACS Chapter Council nominates individuals to be appointed by the Commission on Cancer to the role of CoC State Chair. CoC State Chairs are appointed to a three-year term.
