In celebration of Global Diversity Awareness Month, the UAB Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion and Dean’s Council on Graduate Medical Education (DCGME) Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion held its annual reception welcoming new faculty, residents and medical students on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
An annual event sponsored by the School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion, the October 19 reception was the third of its kind, intended to recognize the exceptional strides women are making within the School of Medicine.
In celebration of both International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, the UAB School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion sponsored on March 22 a visit from Valerie Montgomery Rice, M.D., dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine.
The UAB chapter of the Student National Medical Association focuses on underserved communities through pipeline programs, mentorship and health care. 
The School of Medicine's Office of Diversity and Inclusion hosted Diversity Day events Feb. 2-3.
The Diversity Day events on Feb. 3 will begin with Diversity Grand Rounds, featuring John Ruffin, Ph.D., the founding director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, at noon in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium.
The UAB chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association concluded a year filled with seminars, workshops and lectures with a networking event on November 29.
The UAB Chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association continued its roster of activities dealing with issues relevant to women in medicine and science with its October meeting, which featured a panel discussion on “Demystifying Promotion.” 
The promotion reception, an annual event sponsored by the School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion, recognized 22 women faculty members who were recently promoted to the rank of professor or associate professor.
Lauren Nassetta, M.D., assistant professor of Pediatrics, addressed the prevalence of burnout and its impact on women in the medical field at the July 27 meeting of the American Medical Women’s Association.
