Informatics researchers, professionals and educators from the UAB Informatics Institute had a strong presence at the AMIA 2018 Annual Symposium, held Nov. 3-7 in San Francisco. The symposium is the premier academic conference in biomedical informatics and is sponsored by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Over 2,200 people attended this year’s conference.
Eight medical students awarded scholarships to expand their horizons through study abroad in Africa and South America

Earlier this year, fourth-year medical students had the opportunity to submit proposals for potential study trips to underserved communities around the globe. Of those applicants, eight students received study abroad scholarships from UAB’s International Medical Education (UAB IME).

Richard Whitley, M.D., professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was recently named an Honorary Fellow by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in recognition of his significant contributions to medicine.
