The mission of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at UAB is to train future leaders in MFM with complementary skill sets in maternal care, fetal ultrasound, and clinical research. A three-year fellowship program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine is structured to provide each fellow with a broad-based experience in all of the clinical and research aspects of MFM so that graduates will be well prepared for careers as academic clinicians and clinician scientists.

Graduates of our program will be able to

  • Successfully care for medically complex women
  • Diagnose and manage fetal and obstetrical complications
  • Perform complex maternal surgery
  • Perform diagnostic fetal procedures and basic fetal interventions
  • Understand and apply core clinical research concepts.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Genetics Fellowship

In addition, the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine offers a combined four-year fellowship program providing training in both Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Clinical Genetics in conjunction with the Department of Medical Genetics.
