This exciting new addition to the clinic’s pediatric waiting room is yet another achievement made possible by the generous half-million-dollar partnership with the Monday Morning Quarterback Club Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation and EyeSight Foundation of Alabama.

The impact of this partnership has been nothing short of extraordinary. Over the years, the substantial funds provided to UAB Callahan Eye have resulted in the growth of their pediatric care team from a modest two providers to an impressive six. This expansion has translated into an annual capacity to serve over 15,000 pediatric patients, ensuring children in need receive the specialized attention and care they deserve.

The partnership hasn't stopped at bolstering the clinic's workforce. It has also enabled the acquisition of cutting-edge technology and clinical equipment, reinforcing the organization's commitment to providing the best care for young patients. This investment in the latest tools and techniques ensures that no child's vision issue goes undiagnosed or untreated.

"Our mission at UAB Callahan Eye is to provide access to expert eye care for anyone who needs it. This partnership with the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation has allowed us to expand our footprint not only by growing our pediatric team but also in the number of locations and communities where we are able to provide eye care to children,” said Rett Grover, CEO of UAB Callahan Eye. “We are grateful to the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation for its dedication and commitment to children’s vision health, and I look forward to continuing our partnership as we work together to give children in Alabama and beyond the eye care they need and deserve.”

The unveiling ceremony was attended by a distinguished group including executives from the Quarterbacking Children's Health Foundation, UAB Callahan Eye, the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, and Advancing Sight Network. The event also welcomed the presence of UAB Callahan Eye's pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists, underlining the collaborative spirit that fuels progress in pediatric eye care.

A standout feature of the event was the introduction of a wall mural, thoughtfully designed by Grace Bertram, that is prominently displayed in the Suite 410 Kids Zone. The Kids Zone itself is a pediatric waiting room, equipped with toys, activities, and movies to keep young patients and their families comfortable and entertained while awaiting appointments.

The unveiling ceremony featured heartfelt remarks from key figures who have played pivotal roles in the success of this transformative partnership. Jeff Stone, Trustee of the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation, expressed the foundation's profound commitment to children's health. Barbara Evers, Director of the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, emphasized the collaborative spirit that has driven this initiative forward.

Brian Samuels, Chair of the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, underscored the immense impact of this partnership on the future of pediatric eye care.

“The UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is so fortunate to have partners like the Monday Morning Quarterback Club Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation and EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, who believe in the work we are doing to treat and cure the world’s blinding diseases,” said Samuels. “The front-line work and the research we are doing, particularly in the pediatric division, would not be possible without this support, and we are proud to have a dedicated space to show our appreciation.”

Grover spoke of the transformative effects of the funds on the clinic's capabilities and reach, and Rob Tauscher, UAB Callahan Eye’s newest pediatric ophthalmologist, shared insights into the clinic's dedication to delivering excellence in patient care.
