The Department of Otolaryngology at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is seeking an underrepresented in medicine (URiM) medical student for a paid 8-week research opportunity. The goal of the program is to provide URiM medical students research knowledge, research experience and broad exposure to the field of Otolaryngology. Students will complete an 8-week mentored research program while learning core research techniques.

Underrepresented in medicine includes students who identify as African Americans and/or Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islander, and mainland Puerto Rican. The definition also refers to students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds regardless of race. (i.e. economically disadvantaged backgrounds, first generation of those in their family to attend college)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Available to start on campus 6/6/2022 (if this date does not align with your program dates, please explain with submission)

  • The successful candidate will be from an underrepresented minority racial or ethnic group and/or disadvantaged background

  • United States citizen or permanent resident

  • Commit to full-time (40 hours/week) research for a duration of 8 weeks

  • Required submission of Application, Curriculum Vitae and two letters of recommendation

  • Proof of clinical shadowing vaccine requirements: TB, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, COVID-19
