In our institution-wide effort, we seek to expand educational and cultural opportunities, advance research and patient care and fuel economic development. The Department of Otolaryngology seeks support for the following priorities:

Pay it Forward - Susan Norton Hicks Memorial Fund

The purpose of the Susan Norton Hicks Memorial Fund is to support the educational activities of residents in the Department of Otolaryngology. Residents know firsthand of the hard work that goes into the residency program and how your support allows the UAB residency program to be set apart from the rest. We challenge all of our graduating residents and alumni to pay it forward to our next generation of otolaryngologists.

Accelerate Research - Bobby Jack Armstrong Research Acceleration Fund

Named in honor of beloved patient Bobby Jack Armstrong, the Bobby Jack Armstrong Research Acceleration Fund provides key support for our researchers as they discover new treatments and improve therapies for head and neck cancer patients.

Attract Top Talent - Allison and Glenn Peters Endowed Professorship

Endowed Professorships are crucial for attracting and retaining the highest-quality faculty. Skilled and caring professors can touch hundreds of lives through their academic work, the trainees they mentor, and the patients whose lives are changed by their clinical expertise. With philanthropic support, we can honor Dr. Peters’ legacy while investing in the future of the department.

Continuing Education - Gary T. Turner Endowed Lectureship

The Gary T. Turner Endowed Lectureship supports the department's mission of sharing advancements and engaging with experts within the field of otolaryngology. Contributions to this fund help promote the spread of knowledge and investments in the scholastic future of the department.

Surgical Training - William R. Carroll Advanced Surgical Skills Training Lab Fund

The UAB Advanced Surgical Skills Training Lab Fund was created in honor of Dr. Carroll's retirement and is designed to provide UAB residents, fellows, and faculty with unparalleled opportunities to hone their surgical skills. This facility is a state-of-the-art facility with advanced instruction capabilities to enhance training opportunities for our medical community.

Expert Recruitment- John W. Poynor Endowed Professorship in Otolaryngology

The John W. Poyner Professorship was created through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Poyner. This endowment supports the department to recruit or retain an expert in the field of otolaryngology. This fund also pays tribute to Dr. Poyner's own commitment to the field of otolaryngology and will continue his dedication to research and excellent patient care.
