Volunteers of the Safe Zone Program have attended at least one class about sexual orientation and gender identity awareness and are committed to providing a campus environment in which gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight students and employees are free to thrive on an academic, professional, and personal level within a community that is based on respect and dignity.

The Gender and Sexuality Union at UAB

The Gender and Sexuality Union at UAB (GSU) provides a welcoming social atmosphere for students seeking friendship and support through on and off campus activities and events.

Additionally, the GSU aims to aid in the further education of UAB and surrounding communities concerning the realities of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals through campus activities and panel discussions.

UAB Students can become members of the organization by registering through UAB BSync.

MedPride:Gay/Straight Alliance

MedPride:Gay/Straight Alliance

MedPride:Gay/Straight Alliance is a medical student group at University of Alabama School of Medicine. We desire to create a safe place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) persons in medicine, as well as their straight allies. Additionally, MedPride aims to further educate the UAB community about the realities of LGBTQQ health needs through campus activities and panel discussions and equip future medical providers with skills to address physical and mental health concerns of LGBTQQ individuals.

BorderTrans

borderTRANS is a safe place where trans students can come with questions about their gender identity and other issues they may have. borderTRANS is a space for individuals to share their experiences and create community in a welcoming, supportive environment. This group is open to any UAB student who identifies as Trans, Transgender, Gender-queer, Fluid, Non-Binary, FTM, MTF, Two Spirit, Intersex, Gender Questioning and Transexual.
