Accreditation by The Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) is voluntary, but has evolved into an all-but-necessary qualification to be accepted and competitive in the field of blood and marrow transplantation. FACT accreditation demonstrates commitment to quality in blood and marrow transplantation through adherence to rigorous standards that are verified by inspection and peer review every three years. For the fourth time, The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham (UAB) Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cell Therapy Program and The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Children's of Alabama, have received accreditation. For twelve years the two programs have committed to improving the quality of care given to their patients by maintaining accreditation with FACT. The strive to continually improve patient care as well as quality of care has increased the knowledge base of each program to continue moving into the ever changing future of blood and marrow transplantation.
