Congratulations on your new arrival! We’d like to welcome you and your baby to the UAB Women & Infants Center’s Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) and Continuing Care Nursery (CCN). The Center is a new state-of-the-art facility, offering one of the largest all private room NICUs in the country.

We know that having your baby in the RNICU or CCN may be stressful,  however, we want you to know that our entire team is very experienced in the care of premature and/or sick newborns and very committed to doing everything that we can for your baby and for you.  We want you to know that we’re here to provide answers, support, and comfort during every moment of your baby’s hospital stay.

We look forward to getting to know you and your baby during your stay with us. As parents, you are the most important people in your baby’s life and, in many ways, the most important part of your baby’s care team.  Because we believe in patient- and family-centered care, our goal is to provide your baby with personalized, skilled care in a comfortable, secure setting and with you at the center of your baby’s care team.

We ask that you think of yourselves as your baby’s voice and advocate. We want you to understand everything about your baby’s condition and plan of care.  We want you to feel comfortable asking questions as often as you feel necessary.  And if you don’t understand the answer or any information that you have received, please be sure to tell us. We’re here to provide answers because we know you’ll feel better if you understand everything about your baby’s care and treatment.  It’s natural for you to want to understand your baby’s condition and to want to help us care for your baby.  Please know that we value and welcome your involvement every step of the way.  Together, we are a team and together we will develop a plan of care based on your baby’s special healthcare needs and personality.

We’re here to inform, support, and guide you during your baby’s time with us.

Warmest regards,
