The National Cystic Fibrosis Conference 2014

The UAB PPC Nutrition traineeship focuses on a wide variety of pediatric pulmonary diseases and the interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of pediatric pulmonary patients. In the program, a variety of clinical experiences, including inpatient services and outpatient clinics at Children’s of Alabama, as well as other community clinics, are arranged for the trainee based on his or her individual goals and needs. Trainees participate in interdisciplinary team rounds and conferences, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary outpatient clinics, didactic classes, and special projects. The delivery of family-centered, community-based, culturally sensitive, and linguistically appropriate care, which is a Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) value, is emphasized in all aspects of the training program.

This traineeship opportunity has been in existence since 1980 and is available to one long-term graduate nutrition student each year. Nutrition trainees are usually simultaneously enrolled in a graduate program, although some post-masters trainees have been accepted. Candidates for the PPC traineeship possess leadership potential and an interest in working in the field of maternal and child health. They also agree to be periodically surveyed upon graduation.
