The UAB Pediatric Resident Wellness Committee was created by residents for residents! Driven by a hope to infuse wellness into the training environment.

Our Mission: To provide events and support to promote wellness among residents in all rotations at COA. Committee members will jointly organize small wellness events in the resident lounge or off-campus to promote healthy lifestyles and emotional support and cheer! Below are many of the things the Wellness Committee works to provide to increase resident wellness.

Health Related Wellness

Free weekly workouts arranged by the Wellness Committee from Fall to Spring to promote exercise and physical wellbeing. Previously, these workouts have been funded by the UAB GME Works for Wellbeing 2018 grant, now supported by the Pediatric Residency Program. Also, residents are invited to Wellness Walks at local parks and trails.

We provide a quarterly Mindfulness Meeting with Chaplains, Therapists, or with COA’s Director of Emotional Wellness to help residents reflect individually and collectively on stressful moments in residency and how to cope with stress as well as reflect on what drives them to this vocation.

Events Around Birmingham

Providing monthly updates on events occurring around the city for individuals and family-friendly activities.

We provide fun events in the resident lounge with monthly Wellness Wednesdays! Examples include popcorn day, trail mix bar, hot cocoa day, make your own cupcake day, quarterly birthday party for residents, and Hand-in-Paw pet therapy.

Monthly Drawings

Prizes awarded monthly including exercise equipment, nutrition products, movie tickets & gift cards to local attractions.

Wellness Elective

Newly created elective block curriculum available for residents to learn about issues impacting physician wellness and take steps toward ensuring their own personal wellness.
