Valerie Eubanks Tarn, MS, RD, LD
Valerie received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Montevallo and completed her dietetic internship at Emory University. She completed two Maternal and Child Health traineeship programs while obtaining her Masters in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She has been employed as a Registered Dietitian at Children’s Hospital/UAB since 1994. During this time, she has worked as the pulmonary nutritionist for Children’s Hospital of Alabama, Cystic Fibrosis research coordinator for UAB, and currently serves as the Nutrition Faculty and Training Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary Center at UAB.

Valerie has appointments with UAB as Instructor in Pediatrics and the Department of Nutrition Sciences. She serves as a pediatric nutrition preceptor to UAB dietetic interns, and mentors other students through various programs. Her major interests are in the areas of nutrition management of pediatric pulmonary diseases, primarily cystic fibrosis. She is particularly interested in appetite stimulants and working on quality improvement projects.

Theresa Rodgers, DNP, CRNP – AC/PC –C
Theresa Rodgers has been a registered nurse since 1977 when she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) from Tuskegee University. She received her Master of Science in Nursing in 1983 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received a post graduate certificate in pediatric primary care at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1994.   She completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at UAB in 2011.  Theresa has been employed by Children’s of Alabama since 1994 as a nurse practitioner within the pulmonary department. She joined the Pediatric Pulmonary Center as nurse faculty in 2011. She is certified as a pediatric acute care and primary care nurse practitioner and works with both inpatients and outpatients that have chronic pulmonary diseases. These include asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and cystic fibrosis.


Staphanie Gamble, RRT, EMT
Stephanie is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and a member of the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapist. Her medical background steams from 10 years as serving as a volunteer fire fighter/national registered EMT. Stephanie is currently seeking her MBA in Health Care Management from Columbia Southern University. Her goal is to become an active leader in the Pediatric Pulmonary Center and continue with its excellence. She is very enthusiastic and is looking forward to collaborating in any areas needed.

Stephanie has worked at Children’s of Alabama since 2005. Her respiratory therapy career started as a student/intern in 2007. In 2010 she had the opportunity to become part of the CF team.  She is a now member of the infant pulmonary function team, does CF education, equipment referrals, discharge planning and research with the CF team. She has progressed into the role of Infant Pulmonary Function Coordinator and the Respiratory Therapy Faculty for the PPC. Her major interests are in the field of quality improvement and airway clearance in the cystic fibrosis population.
