Dr. Knight received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She completed an internship in behavioral medicine at West Virginia University and a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at UAB in the Department of Neurology.
Dr. Knight is Board Certified in the area of Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Knight works with patients on the SRC Stroke Service and provides a continuum of care in the multidisciplinary outpatient Stroke Clinic with PM&R and Neurology, and for assessments pertaining to capacity for return to work or driving post-discharge. Dr. Knight’s research has focused on the neurobiology of acute medical trauma and the validity of neuropsychological evaluation in driving capacity. Dr. Knight’s current research protocol investigates the utility of early cognitive capacity assessments in predicting return to driving following stroke. She is collaborating with Dr. Despina Stavrinos, Director of the UAB Translational Research for Injury Prevention Laboratory to collect performance data from a full-scale driving simulator. Dr. Knight also maintains an IRB for capturing data from all clinical driving evaluations for future research projects. Ongoing publications are now in preparation from prior work investigating the human neurobiological response to stress following acute trauma exposure with functional neuroimaging (fMRI). Additional projects are underway.
