Samuel E. Almodóvar-Reteguis, M.D. is originally from Puerto Rico and is fluent in English and Spanish.  He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez and medical school training at the Ponce School of Medicine, in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  He completed a residency in Nuclear Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia.  He also completed a fellowship in Nuclear Oncology/PET-CT at the Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Dana-Farber Cancer Institute program, and is board certified by both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.  He is a past Chief Resident of Nuclear Medicine at UAB.

He currently is Head of the University of Alabama at Birmingham DCGME Subcommittee on Diversity, Multicultural Affairs and Inclusion, and has served as an expert speaker for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).  Among others he was selected for the J.T. Rutherford Fellowship in Government Relations of the American College of Radiology.

His areas of special interest include PET-CT in Oncology and Multimodality Cross-Sectional Imaging.
