Lincoln L. Berland, M.D., FACR

Dr. Berland completed his undergraduate training at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, followed by medical school at the Washington University in St. Louis. After completing residency training in Diagnostic Radiology and Fellowship in Body Imaging at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee he joined the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983 in the body imaging section.

Dr. Berland has had several positions within the department, most recently serving as Vice-Chair for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. He is also currently the Chair of the Body Imaging Commission of the American College of Radiology. He is a past President of the Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance and is also a Fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound. Dr. Berland is the author or coauthor of 100 articles, sixteen chapters, and one book. His primary research interests are in dual-energy CT, liver CT, contrast-enhancement for CT and Doppler Ultrasound. Among his activities within the ACR, he has led the development of six white papers on how to manage incidental findings that are found on CT and MRI.
