Why I chose UAB: I chose UAB for the strong, and well balance clinical training, as well as for the multiple research opportunities, and mentorship it offers. I was sure that training at UAB would allow me to hone my research skills and provide me a broad and solid clinical exposure to the different rheumatologic diseases. Furthermore, I was fascinated with the incredible friendly environment and camaraderie from all the faculty and staff that made me feel welcomed and home from day one.

Why I chose UAB: Patient Diversity and the opportunity to learn from preeminent thinkers in Rheumatology.
  • Adam Taylor, MD

Why I chose UAB: After experiencing first-hand the academic excellence and simultaneously close-knit, collegial atmosphere of the rheumatology program while a resident at UAB, choosing to stay for my fellowship training was an obvious decision. The clinical training is as strong as you will find anywhere and the expansive reach of the division provides opportunities for you to shape your experience to fit your future career. And while three years ago I would never see myself saying this, I really like living in the south, and the community of Birmingham really feels like home to me.
  • Raj Vachhani, MD

Why I chose UAB: I chose UAB given the diversity and volume of rheumatic pathology seen here along with the incredible faculty. Birmingham has all the perks of living in a big city but without the traffic. It has great food, innumerable hiking trails, and scenic parks for my dog to enjoy.

Why I chose UAB: Choosing UAB wasn’t a random decision but I chose to be here on purpose. Being in UAB means that I can build one of my main step towards my ultimate goal to be a successful, excellent clinician-scientist.
  • John Bridges, MD

Why I chose UAB: I chose UAB because I was impressed by the distinguished and impressive faculty on both the adult and pediatric sides of rheumatology.
  • Lesley Jackson, MD

Why I chose UAB: UAB has a strong academic record, and the program came highly recommended by one of my co-residents that completed rheumatology fellowship here. I am very outdoorsy, and Birmingham has a lot to offer in terms of hiking, kayaking, and water sports. I was also interested in the research opportunities UAB affords, and I'm fortunate to pursue these interests through a T32 training grant. Long term, I hope to assimilate my interests in rheumatology research, global health and advocacy to pursue a position in academics, and UAB is a pivotal part of this endeavor.
