2023 Registration

Registration is currently open for UAB attendees. 
We are no longer accepting abstract submissions from non-UAB trainees. 

Important Deadlines:

The abstract submission deadline for UAB trainees is May 1, 2023.     
The registration and abstract submission deadline for NON-UAB trainees closed on April 1, 2023.

Conference Details, Travel Awards & Abstracts


The annual NEURAL Conference is the only regional neuroscience graduate trainee conference of its kind and the cornerstone of the efforts put forth by the UAB Neuroscience Roadmap Scholars Program. The conference is designed to benefit the underrepresented* neuroscience graduate trainee. It will take place at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on June 14-16, 2023. REGISTRATION IS FREE!

Non-UAB underrepresented* neuroscience graduate trainees are targeted for attendance.
 Attendance by ALL UAB neuroscience trainees is requested and encouraged.  

Poster presentations and attendance are open to ALL neuroscience trainees. Oral presentations will be chosen from underrepresented* neuroscience graduate attendees ONLY. There will be a total of 3 poster awards and 3 oral awards made. Abstract details and a submission form can be found below.

A limited number of TRAVEL AWARDS are available for non-UAB underrepresented* neuroscience graduate students! Preference will be given to trainees who submit quality abstracts by the deadline of April 1, 2023. A second round of travel awards will be made if funds allow. Travel awards will take the form of free dorm lodging, meals and travel reimbursements upon receipt of detailed receipts. Indicate your interest in a travel award on the registration form. Non-UAB trainees whose abstracts are accepted will be notified by April 15, 2023.


Presenting is an important aspect of the NEURAL Conference. Poster presentations are open to ALL neuroscience trainees. Oral presentations will be selected from underrepresented* neuroscience trainees only.

Abstracts must be neuroscience-related. Abstract bodies should be no longer than 250 words and include: Title; Author list; Introduction; Materials & Methods; Results; Conclusion. Use Microsoft Word; Arial 11pt; single spaced. Abstract submission for Travel Awards is open! If you have questions, please email or call (205) 934-9115.

Posters should fit on a 4-ft high by 8-ft wide poster board. Oral presentations will be a total of 10 minutes in length (8 minutes of science and slides; 2 minutes for questions).
