Residents pursuing research training are required to apply for intramural and extramural funding to support their research endeavors. Association of VA Surgeons

​The Association of VA Surgeons is pleased to announce the AVAS Resident Research Scholarship. This is a one-year award available to general surgical or surgical subspecialty residents with a faculty mentor who has at least a 5/8ths VA appointment. Research proposals in clinical outcomes, health services research, education research, basic science or translational research will be considered. The award is for $25,000 for one year.

To attract General Surgery Residents into the field of colon and rectal surgery by providing opportunities to engage in clinical or laboratory-based research focused on diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. The grant funds $20,000 per year for 1 year. An opportunity for a second year of funding is available via a competitive renewal application. A complete application the following year with a full review by the Research Foundation is required to obtain a second year of funding.
