Alabama native and Time Magazine’s “Queen of Quirk” DeQn Sue will perform live onstage from UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center in a free, streamed concert.

DeQn Sue’s music is alternative pop with hints of funk, R&B, and even vaudeville with a sharp lyrical edge bursting with message and humor. A deft song-maker whose quick lyrical and sonic turns create surprise, she transcends style, spinning words and sounds purely engaged in the now, according to her artist statement. Her music has been featured by T-Mobile and in the series “Orange is the New Black,” to name a few.

DeQn Sue rose above a crowd of close to 7,000 entries and “almost” won the 2015 Tiny Desk Concert Contest — NPR Music wrote, “What you’ll hear is a witty soul and a powerful singer backed by precise beats, melodic bass and electronics, all wrapped in humor and heart.”
