New performances just announced for UAB’s Alys Stephens Center 2022-2023 season

Artists Geena Davis, John Paul White with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Smokey Robinson and Sheila E. will perform this season at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center.

Geena Davis, John Paul White with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Smokey Robinson and Sheila E. have been added to the Alys Stephens Center’s new 2022-2023 season

Tickets are on sale now for all shows. The season will kick off Sept. 13 with “Croce Plays Croce.” On the schedule are all-ages family shows, classical and world music, jazz legends, rock, soul, and much more. Thursday, Nov. 10

Geena Davis, 7 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. Two-time Academy Award winner Davis is known for her roles in movies that became cultural landmarks, such as Muriel Pritchett in “The Accidental Tourist,” Thelma in “Thelma & Louise,” and Dottie Hinson in “A League of Their Own.” Davis will speak about her career and her work advocating against stereotyping in Hollywood. Tickets are $50, $60 and $70. A limited number of $10 student tickets are available, as well as a discount for UAB employees of $15 off the purchase of two tickets.

John Paul White with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, 7 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. Four-time Grammy Award-winning artist and former member of The Civil Wars, White will join the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in a unique crossover performance reimagining the Southern rock, Americana and country hits that made him famous. Tickets are $25, $35 and $45. A limited number of $10 student tickets are available, as well as a discount for UAB employees of $15 off the purchase of two tickets in A-level seating.

Smokey Robinson, 8 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. Inducted into the Kennedy Center and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, awarded an individual star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a second star with The Miracles, legendary Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer and co-founder of Motown Records Robinson was also recognized with the National Medal of Arts and a BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Tickets are $125, $150 and $175. A limited number of $10 student tickets are available, as well as a discount for UAB employees of $15 off the purchase of two tickets.

Sheila E., 7 p.m. UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. This event was originally scheduled for May 4. Born into a musical family, Sheila Escovedo would copy the hand movements of her father as he played the drums — planting the seed for what became her life’s passion. Five decades later, the beat shows no signs of slowing down. With a fearless nature and a passion for sharing her gifts with others, the famous drummer, singer, songwriter and author considers music to be the purest form of self-expression and the one true love of her life. Tickets are $45, $55 and $65. A limited number of $10 student tickets are available, as well as a $15 discount off the purchase of two tickets for UAB employees.
