Outstanding high school music students from Alabama and throughout the South are invited to join the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marching Blazers on Saturday, Sept. 17, for All-Star High School Band Day.
The All-Star Band will perform the half-time show for the UAB vs. Georgia Southern game with the UAB Marching Blazers, entertaining a crowd of thousands in Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. High school marching band members, from woodwinds, brass and percussion to color guard, majorettes, dancers and drill team members, can join the UAB Marching Blazers in practice and performance.
Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. Registration is $30 and includes an event T-shirt to be worn on the field, admission to the football game and a food voucher for use at the stadium. To register, visit www.uab.edu/bands. Music will be sent out in advance so musicians can begin learning it. The group will rehearse that morning and perform at the football game that afternoon.
The 210-member-strong Marching Blazers are in preseason training camp from Aug. 8-19. The marching band’s first show of the season is a tribute to boy bands, featuring the music of Backstreet Boys, BTS, One Direction and The Jackson 5. The UAB Marching Blazers are part of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music.
