Hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of History, Frye Gaillard will give an in-depth lecture on the history of the decade of the 1960s on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. in Heritage Hall, Room 104.
The lecture will focus primarily on the events that inspired his book, “Hard Rain: One Man’s Take on a Decade.”
The book was named by Publishers Weekly “an enlightening picture of America at a historic juncture” that reflects on a masterful recollection of various 1960s events ranging from the Vietnam War and the women’s movement to Janis Joplin and Martin Luther King.
Gaillard is an award-winning journalist with more than 20 published works on Southern history and culture. He has won the Clarence Cason Award for Nonfiction Writing and the Lillian Smith Book Award.
Prior to the event, a reception will be held at 3 p.m. in the lobby of Heritage Hall; it will be open to the public.
