WorldCUR23 550x413The University of Alabama at Birmingham had the most representation during the World Congress on Undergraduate Research annual conference, with 22 students attending.

Building on successful events in Oldenburg, Germany, in 2019 and Doha, Qatar, in 2016, the third WorldCUR took place in Warwick, England, at the University of Warwick. The Council on Undergraduate Research brought together the world’s best undergraduate researchers to focus on significant challenges facing the global community.

“This was our second trip to WorldCUR after we sent five brilliant students to Germany in 2019,” said Gareth Jones, director of Service Learning and Undergraduate Research. “Now, 22 amazing students went to England to participate in WorldCUR 2023. Because this conference happens only once every three years, it is very competitive and selective. UAB continues to be a world leader in undergraduate research by preparing our students to conduct and present their research on the international level. Students learn to present at the UAB Expo and through incredible mentorship from faculty, researchers and staff. We were so proud to be able to support these students as they get to network and interact with their future global colleagues.”

To be considered for WorldCUR, students must submit an abstract under one of the multidisciplinary global themes: health, power, sustainability, data, create, community and the future. During the conference, research is presented in sessions to encourage interdisciplinary conversations and facilitate professional networking and project development. This year, UAB’s WorldCUR students represent the School of Engineering, School of Health Professions, School of Public Health, and College of Arts and Sciences.
