UAB alum, world-renowned sustainability expert to speak Sept. 20

Ed McMahon will speak as part of the Department of Biology fall seminar series.

Ed_McMahonEd McMahon, the Charles E. Fraser Chair on Sustainable Development at the Urban Land Institute, will discuss “The Dollars and Sense of Sustainable Development” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, in the UAB Hill University Center Alumni Auditorium, 1400 University Boulevard. The event is part of the Department of Biology fall seminar series.

McMahon, senior fellow for sustainable development at ULI, leads the group’s worldwide efforts in research and education related to environmentally sensitive policies and practices. He is recognized as a leading authority on sustainable development, smart growth, land conservation and historic preservation. McMahon, a Birmingham native, earned a bachelor of science from Spring Hill College, a master’s in urban studies from UAB and a law degree from Georgetown University.
