29 Birmingham-area bakeries, cafes, restaurants and catering companies will sell designated desserts to support leading-edge cancer research

sweet_on_a_cureOn Dec. 3-9, 2012, the Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center will host Sweet on a Cure, an event in which 29 Birmingham-area bakeries, cafes, restaurants and catering companies will sell designated desserts with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support leading-edge cancer research.

Sweet on a Cure was created in 2009 by the Cancer Center as a dynamic way to invite Birmingham’s vibrant restaurant community to support the fight against cancer.  The Young Supporters Board is a group of 40 professionals ages 22-35, all of whom have been touched by cancer and are dedicated to supporting the mission of the Cancer Center.

Funds raised by Sweet on a Cure 2012 will specifically be used to support the work of promising young cancer investigators. In today's economic climate, federal funding is more difficult to receive than ever, particularly for those scientists who are just beginning their careers. Sweet on a Cure will help young investigators test new theories and lay the groundwork for advancing scientific discoveries that could lead to substantial federal grant funding, and possibly a cure.

Participating eateries include Hot and Hot Fish Club, Jim ‘N Nick’s, Chez Fonfon, Nabeel’s and Whole Foods.
