UAB Collat School of Business students provide free tax preparation

Business students will again help prepare taxes for filers who earn less than $49,000 annually.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) will provide free tax preparation to greater Birmingham residents who qualify. The UAB effort is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, sponsored locally by the United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) and PNC Bank, which partners volunteers with tax filers who earn less than $49,000 annually.

UAB students will provide this service at three locations: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at UWCA, 3600 8th Ave. South; Feb. 2 and 16, March 2 and April 6 at the UAB Business and Engineering Complex (BEC) Computer Lab, 1150 10th Ave. South; and March 9 at Project Homeless Connect at Boutwell Auditorium, 1930 8th Ave. North.

Call 205-458-8970 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to set an appointment for one of the scheduled dates. This is the sixth year in a row UAB has partnered with the IRS-sponsored VITA program.
