UAB student wins MTNA Alabama state competition

UAB Department of Music student Kseniia Polstiankina won the Young Artist Performance Competition at the state Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competition at Samford University Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. 

Polstiankina, a senior music major, is a student of UAB Associate Professor of Piano Yakov Kasman, D.M.A. This is a prestigious and difficult competition, he says, which UAB piano students have won six times during the past nine years. Polstiankina will represent Alabama in the MTNA Southern Division Auditions in Columbus, Ga., in January 2011. She is the daughter of Irina Polstiankina and Sergei Polstiankin of Kiev, Ukraine.
