UAB school hosts first Dodging for Degrees Dodgeball Tournament

The UAB School of Health Professions hosts a dodgeball tournament as a fun way to raise money for the School’s Junior Board scholarship fund.

dodgeball2You played it in elementary school and saw the movie. Now, you want to throw a ball at someone as hard as you can. Your chance comes with the first University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Health Professions Dodging for Degrees Dodgeball Tournament.

The Dodging for Degrees Dodgeball Tournament, a fundraiser for the School of Health Professions Junior Advisory Board Scholarship Fund, begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the UAB Recreation Center, 1501 University Blvd.

The cost per team member is only $10 and includes a commemorative, one-of-a-kind, soon-to-be-collector’s-item Dodging for Degrees T-shirt. Each team must have at least six players, and at least two must be female. Teams may have a seventh player as an alternate.

Funds raised benefit a scholarship fund to assist SHP students.

“New graduates often enter the workforce without the financial wherewithal to be fully prepared to go to work,” said Ronald Hamner, a member of the SHP Junior Advisory Board. “This is just one of the many areas where the scholarship fund will be available to assist our students.”
