Iota Nu Oratorical Competition to offer $1,000 scholarship for video winner Feb. 21

This year’s topic is “What impact does the presence of a father have on a child’s development?” The top eight videos will be selected for the competition, to be held Feb. 21.

father with sonMembers of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Iota Nu, the national undergraduate chapter of the year for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, are inviting Birmingham-area high school seniors to participate in the 2015 Citywide Oratorical Competition.

The goal of the annual competition is to engage the city’s residents in positive conversation on topics that affect the community. This year’s topic is “What impact does the presence of a father have on a child’s development?” Participants may submit a brief video of themselves speaking on the impact of fatherhood. Members of Iota Nu will provide technical assistance in uploading videos, if needed, and have offered applicants the use of the chapter’s camera for filming. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. For questions or to request an application, email INoratorical@gmail.com.

The top eight videos will be selected for the competition, to be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in UAB’s Heritage Hall, Room 102, 1401 University Blvd.

The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and three tickets to the Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks game at Atlanta’s Philips Arena on Friday, Feb. 27.
