UAB will host an electric vehicle expo Friday, Sept. 15. The event will include more than 25 electric vehicles, food trucks and raffles.

car chargingJoin the University of Alabama at Birmingham and several area businesses and organizations for Birmingham’s National Drive Electric Week electric vehicle expo Friday, Sept.15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UAB Express Lot 4, located at 410 10th Street South. The free event is hosted by UAB Sustainability.

More than 25 electric vehicles will be on display. EV owners, dealers and experts from the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, Alabama Power Company, Southern Research and Birmingham’s Zero Emissions Owners Group will be on hand to talk to attendees about the variety of electric vehicles on the market, charging stations, maintenance needs and costs, and incentives available for those who purchase them. Birmingham City Councilors Sheila Tyson and Valerie Abbott will present awards to two area businesses that are leading efforts to expand electric vehicle infrastructure in the Birmingham area.

The event is open to the public. Area food trucks will be present to offer a taste of local food. All attendees will be entered into a raffle sponsored by Southern Research for a chance to win a Goal Zero Nomad 7 Solar Panel or Goal Zero Nomad 14 Plus Solar Panel. Parking will be available along 10th Street South and Fifth Avenue South.

National Drive Electric Week is a nationwide celebration that takes place from Sept. 9-17 to heighten awareness of the availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
