most wired 2018UAB Medicine has been named one of “Health Care’s Most Wired” for 2018, according to results of the 20th annual Most Wired survey, now administered by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

This is the fifth consecutive year UAB Medicine has earned this recognition.

The mission of the CHIME HealthCare’s Most Wired program is to elevate the health and health care of communities around the world through the optimal use of information technology. The annual survey is designed to identify and recognize health care organizations that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation and use of information technology.

According to CHIME, hospitals and health systems at the forefront of using health care IT to improve the delivery of care have maximized the benefits of foundational technologies and are embracing new technologies that support population management and value-based care. The most successful organizations not only adopt technology but apply it strategically to achieve great outcomes.

“Thanks to our 2018 participants, the tide is already rising,” said Russel Branzell, president of CHIME. “We now have a reliable snapshot of the current state of the industry and a map to guide health care organizations toward excellence. We have identified practices to improve patient safety and outcomes, and we will continue to look for new and better ways to serve our communities. Together, we are raising the standards of care — and saving lives.”

The survey polled 2,190 health care facilities, including 102 international organizations.
