This unique performance in the Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall will feature the state’s premier professional ballet company performing “Paquita” by Marius Petipa, the company’s premiere of “Baker’s Dozen” by Twyla Tharp and a world premiere performance by Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Roger Van Fleteren. The grand pas classique from “Paquita” is widely heralded as a cornerstone of classical ballet technique, and Tharp’s serene “Baker's Dozen” mixes nostalgic emotions and contemporary feeling together. Van Fleteren’s choreography amazes audiences with its mix of modern and classical movement and style and intricate partnering.

See one of three performances at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The engagement is part of ASC’s Homegrown Weekend. Tickets are $51, $39, $27; student tickets are $10. Call 205-975-2787 or visit www.AlysStephens.org.

Alabama Ballet will perform for local schoolchildren through the Alys Stephens Center’s ArtPlay “Meet the Artist” program at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. The performance is part of ArtPlay’s mission to make the performing arts accessible to everyone and help cultivate an understanding of and appreciation for the arts.
