New work for string orchestra by UAB’s Price to have world premiere

A UAB professor's orchestral work will have its world premiere Sunday.

william_price_storyA new work by UAB Music Assistant Professor William Price, D.M.A., will have its world premiere Jan. 22, 2012, by the Louisiana Sinfonietta, a professional string orchestra based in Baton Rouge, La.

The newly commissioned work, “Imprint,” will be performed at 2 p.m. in the Louisiana State University Recital Hall. Price also will give a lecture on his music to the LSU Composers Forum Jan. 23.

In 2008, Price was named the Music Teachers National Association Composer of the Year. He teaches courses in music theory, music technology and aural skills in the UAB Department of Music, and serves as coordinator of composition for the Alabama Music Teachers Association.
